Death of the Dell
I'm plonking on ClareBear's Mac at themoment with a keyboard that is so tight, it misses every other bloody letter. The Dell has had a wobbly. That's my usual choice of PC but for some reason it just won't start up. I tried to repair but it wouldn't and DrummerBoy of course has a 10,000 word essay being kept prisoner within it's bowells so I can't risk reinstalling XP. I'd just installed skype as well and bought a headset to test the free phone call thingy. Bugga . . another expense to at least get his file released and at best a fully functioning PC which should really be relegated to the scrap heap. Just something else to do next week, as if I haven't got enough on my hands . . . maybe I'll buy a new one. I wish I had half a technical brain.
You soooooo knew I would read this, and you so knew that I cannot let technical issues just slip by.
ReplyDeleteSo, please name a date and time at which you wish me to pop by and fix your dell. Or alternatively, we could go shopping to buy you a new mac =)
What use would half a technical brain be?
ReplyDeleteThen you'd only repair half a computer and your son would only have half an essay.
Damian, I'm desperate. I don't care if the thing breaks but Adam's folder is really important, it's got his end of semester essay on it. Can u help us retrieve it? I can't even log in, just a Windows screen then blank. It just keeps restarting itself. Tonight or tomorrow would be fablious.
ReplyDeleteDazza . . you're not helping smarty pants. And 5,000 words is better than none.
I had to write five thousand words on the differences between three species of trout. It can't be worse than that now ...
ReplyDeleteWait til next year and I'll buy you a MacBook Pro from New York. Maybe I'll get a dickscount if I buy two!! hehe.. Meanwhile, leave my keyboard alone..she's old and stiff but she still does the job!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Damian will come by tonight and fix your computer...
ReplyDeleteBut there better be nibblys involved! And none of the cheap stuff either =P
I'll buzz you when I'm home then I'll swing by.
DS: One is brown, one is rainbow coloured and the other lives in the sea. You wasted about 4,986 words.
ReplyDeleteCB: Your keyboard and I have a lot in common
DD: Cheap! Just because I have a beer budget doesn't hamper my champagne taste! Thanks possum you're a champ! I will make something yummy for supper.
It's a flipping Dell. All the info is there all you have to do is pull the H/D and give the old paint a good buriel. Don't let the blockhead fool ya'. If ya' plug the H/D into any windows based PC as a slave drive you'll be able to access the wanted dissertation.
ReplyDeleteApple PC's blow!
I'm glad to hear the show went well.
Well, firstly, she doesn't have any other machine sitting around to plug into, so the point is to get it into working condition as a master drive again.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, A frozen windows screen generally indicates a corruption in the system directory, which can be caused by Hard Drive sector corruption, which may mean that other parts of the hard drive need to be repaired. You COULD do this on a windows machine, but the repair software available on the Mac platform is much better at reindexing hard drives (even in FAT32/NTFS), so it would be quicker and cheaper for us to fix it that way.
And Macs rule. You know they do, and one day, you will buy one, and then you will come back here, and retract your silly comment.
=D
Dario, save me from this battleground with something brainburningly funny!
ReplyDeleteMy computer says Fujitsu Siemens on it ...
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, that Damian dude isn't like the nerds in UCD who get hard-ons over the amount of RAM they have. Show them dudes a Playboy and they'll start jerking off over the typeface on the page.
Well I never, this is the only post that's scored more than 10 comments and it's all about bloody computers. Thanks Damian, you're a champ for restoring the files!
ReplyDeleteDazza: Thanks for lightening things up a bit. These geeks get a bit antsy sometimes.
Lets close this post now and move on fellas! I love yous all
