Angels and Daemons
I like to think of myself as a fairly savvy marketer. I began my life as a Copywriter for a large multinational in-house studio and I think I'm pretty good with the gift of the gab but I have no formal qualifications beyond a major in literature and haven't the technical skill to foray too hard into viral or internet marketing but every now and then . . rarely . . there's a site that inspires and The Golden Compass is one of them. Mind you it helps having the finances of New Line Cinema behind you. Not only is it beautiful, it's a brilliant piece of marketing with downloads, online shops, sneak previews. I stole the link from Fishboy who has this and a load of other 'interesting' downloads and funny bits which often tickle my fancy.
The movie opens here on Boxing Day. Unlike him, I haven't read the books but the movie looks spectacular if you're a lover of mystery and fantasy, armoured polar bears, Daniel Craig or Nicole Kidman it will be worth a look! Have a go at establishing your own Daemon by moving to Downloads or judge me on the accuracy of mine.
It's fun . . it's Christmas . . have a go you mugs
http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/ and click on Downloads and "Meet Your Daemon"
Why can't the fucking Yanks realise that the altheiometer is not a compass.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'd go to the film just to say Eva Green; she's damn fine.
OOOH LOOOK THIS is my Daemon :) The tele ads for the movie look great!
ReplyDeleteMy demon is a white ferret. I don't know if that's an insult... I wanted a pony!!!
ReplyDeleteDaz: I'll have to look up an altheometer . . you're my online tutor bless yer cotton socks
ReplyDeleteAnon: Who'd have thunk! A bird!
Clare & Jem: You've got a pony! Do you remember his name?
This was a brilliant bit of marketing, saw it a few months ago - can't remember now who my daemon was though - some kind of cougar/cat creature.
ReplyDeleteAV: I knew you'd appreciate the genius. I just wish I could produce a website like that.
ReplyDeleteWe just saw the movie. I loved the Iorek the "armored bear"!!!!! I am embarrassed to admit, Nicole Kidman, despite her being the sweetheart of every Australian, is not my favourite actress. At least since she botoxed her entire face, what's better than aging gracefully than turning into something of a face with no expression. Sorry, that's my problem I will deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the books, but now that I have seen the movie, I will. :)
The movie was BRILLIANT, and Eva Green (Serafina) was in great form. Well, I have a soft spot for witches anyways. She and Iorek were my favs.
Great film, I recommend it to everybody who loves all things magic.
Gx
I have yet to see it but every review I've seen says it is very violent and anti-Catholic. So I'm not interested.
ReplyDeleteMine is an eagle of some sort.
ReplyDeleteNow I can get high and fly. :)
And Brian, why would you dismiss a film based on the reviews? I've read Pullman's books and they're anti-dogmatic, not necessarily anti-Catholic. I'm a Catholic and if you take offence to something like Northern Lights or The Subtle Knife then you're as bad as the other PC idiots.
ReplyDeleteThe books rock, too.
Gaye: Glad it lived up to its reputation, it hasn't had much publicity here yet. The shorts look brilliant. I'll be in the queue on Boxing Day and have asked for the Books for Christmas (Take it easy on our Nicole - although I agree about the lack of expression)
ReplyDeleteBrianf: Oh pish! I believe it is no more anti-Catholic than Chronicles of Narnia is pro-Christian ... didn't see people boycotting CS Lewis now did we? I think you're being precious. Don't believe all you hear the Catholic League of America say. If they were the Muslim League of America or the Jewish League of America . . .would you take their word?
As for 'very violent', it's a kids movie rated PG. I wouldn't take a toddler but it's perfect for th e 8 ups. And that's a bit rich coming from someone who watches Blade! If you don't like fantasy, fine . . but please don't be influenced by critics and reviewers, they all have their own agendas.
Brian Damage: I wouldn't have pegged you for a literary or a religious type. You're full of surprises!
