Remember the old Mac vs the PC, Ford vs Holden, Betamax vs VHS? It's the same thing. Here both Blue Ray and HD are available for sale but the video shops are decidedly backing Sony's DVD. PS3 also has a Blue Ray player and already some eager early birds in the HD Set Top Box or TV enthusiasts are relegating their players to the attic. Looks like Blue Ray is the winner? DrummerBoy is talking PS3 but may have run out of cash due to his latest sartorial spending spree. Haha, you XBoxers must be hoping that Microsoft backs the Blue Ray bandwagon too although they're swearing they'll remain committed to HD.
So . . .do I buy a Blue Ray system or the highly promoted High Definition . . what's the diff? Well about 30% of the purchase price actually. And now that Time Warner are producing their DVD's on Blue Ray, the writing's on the wall I guess. HD is cheaper, Blue Ray is better and cornering the market. I wonder how he'll feel about a library of leather bound classics instead.
Errrr. I'm not sure I could be arsed with either. If I go to the cinema I could care less about the size of the screen or the quality of the sound system, it's the film that interests me. It'll be the same for rentals, I'll be hanging on to the good old fashioned (rip-able) variety for as long as I can. Frankly it's all a load of marketing pants and the main reason for the companies being bothered shifting to a new standard is the prospect of improved content protection coupled with the slew of sales of new machines to play the new format. I say sod the electronics manufacturers and the film industry, don't by their new tat, instead spend your money on getting a better cut of meat from the butcher, or a free range chicken each week. Sorry, being preachy, I'll shut up now.
ReplyDeleteOh Thrifty! Size matters. (Not that I'd know I have a teensy 51cm Telly and an el cheapo sound system but it has a good sub woofer! Transformers never sounded so good! Nah, I'm not a technophile by any stretch. Haha "Marketing Pants" brilliant. Love you Irish. But my doesn't the packaging look sexy! *girl moment. Sparkly things must look away*
ReplyDeletePreach on McDuff!
PS: I live in A-u-s-t-r-a-l-i-a the home of the lamb chop and the T-Bone No shortage of free range organic bok bok's either.
I'm just feeling pretty bloody smug that I know what HD and BlueRay mean! Sheesh . . my best friend would think it's my pre-marital initials and a flat fish!
Hay, just came across your blog. Well done. You keep writing what ever is in your head. It's much more interesting than listening to the constant prattle of people talking about things that are wrong in the world.
ReplyDelete"Oh Thrifty! Size matters"
ReplyDeleteSee, now I'm feeling all inadequate again :-)
Fair point on the location front, but there are plenty of people on this side of the globe that could do with spending the dosh on healthier food, rather than an iPod or some other gadget. Now I'm feeling jealous of your food supply down there. Perhaps I should emigrate.... better food, cheaper oil/beer, better weather....hmmmm.
Bloooooo Raaaaaay
ReplyDeleteI hate to say....but the corporate machine from SoNY is in motion. they won't allow another betamax to happen.
Hi Digital well thanks but there's plenty of prattle in my head as well.
ReplyDeleteThrifty: Don't get your visa yet. The weather's shit, the petrol's expensive but the beer is OK (I think)
Brianf: Yeh, fete accompli methinks!
Baino, that Youtube video was subtitled with Sheffield United getting relegated from the English Premiership last spring.
ReplyDeleteHaha . . I haven't seen that one but it's also been doing the traps with Hitler has his XBox access removed! I suspect there are a few other ones going around.
ReplyDeleteHow about flipping a coin?
