Friday Fuckwit

Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions

Lauren Rosenberg, a Los Angeles California native, is suing Google because Google Maps issued directions that told her to walk down a rural highway. She started walking down the highway - (lookin' for adventure . . ) which had no sidewalk or pedestrian paths and was struck by a car. She is suing Google for her medical expenses ($100,000), as well as punitive damages. She is also suing the driver who struck her.

On January 19, 2010, Rosenberg was apparently trying to get from 96 Daly Street, Park City, Utah, to 1710 Prospector Avenue, Park City, Utah. She looked up the walking directions using Google Maps on her Blackberry. Google Maps suggested a route that included a half-mile walk down "Deer Valley Drive," which is also known as "Utah State Route 224."
There's not much more to say--she started walking down the middle of a highway, and a car hit her. Who wouldn't have seen that one coming?

Google has been accused of being careless, reckless and negligent by providing of unsafe directions, Plaintiff Lauren Rosenberg was led onto a dangerous highway, and was thereby stricken by a motor vehicle, causing her to suffer sever permanent physical, emotional, and mental injuries, including pain and suffering, according to her legal representation.
Google actually does offer up a warning about its walking directions--if you view Google Maps on a computer, it gives you the following message: "Walking directions are in beta. Use caution--This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths."

This warning does not show up in PDA's and cell phones, however. I suppose Google figured that people who are smart enough to use Blackberries are probably also smart enough to not walk directly into the middle of traffic. WRONG: there's nothing less common than common sense.

I don't know whether she won or lost her case.  But I'm sure a few lawyers made enough to enjoy a nice week in Salt Lake City with the morons Mormons!

Enjoy your weekend folks. I'm making a conscious effort to make mine fucking awesome, which means it will probably be, OK.  Cheers:)  Chardy time.

  3. Yup, she definitely qualifies for the Friday Fuckwit! And the sad part is that she'll probably win the suit; after all, the woman who sued McDonalds for scalding herself with their coffee won her suit, so why not this one?

Enjoy your weekend! We'll have a good one here, too; it's a holiday weekend with perfect weather for cookouts and fireworks.

  8. I'm sorry Brian Miller but I'm all for that seafood restaurant sueing BP for fucking up their oysters etc. Of course that's BP's fault and BP should be severely punished.

The ordinary legal technicality, as we were taught in business school, was that consequential loss is NOT ordinarily suable ~ especially where negligence is involved, rather than breech of contract.

As for that silly cow ~ hasn't she heard of a MAP??

  9. Tsk, tsk, I am shaking my head. There is no accountability for one's actions anymore. It is always someone else's fault. Wonder why lately people are thinking that so much. And what happened to the judges who let this crap happen.

Something is clearly wrong with our judicial system here in America. We have lost our sense of what is right and wrong. But then blaming someone else is coming from our top spot in the country and I am sure it empowers everyone else to blame everyone else too. I guess the buck stops in your neighbor's backyard and not your own.

I just feel sorry for the person who hit her. In this instance he seems to be the one person who can actually blame someone else. May we all pray that he knows it is not his fault. Dumbass woman should have known that it is barely safe enough to walk on the sidewalks let alone in the middle of the street.

I hope she gets a jury that is smart enough to vote against her.

    Great Friday Fuckwit.

God bless and glad you are feeling better.

  16. Good grief .. that's all. Just good grief.

Actually, I've driven down one of the Utah rural highways and got out to take photos. They're often long and straight and you can see for a long way. And people drive fast. You need to use caution just crossing the road, let alone walking down the middle of the damn thing.

    Good grief.

    Sorry, broken record.

  20. I read about this in my local paper and remember thinking how stupid this woman is. NOBODY walks down the middle of a road, especially not a state highway.
