Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions
Lauren Rosenberg, a Los Angeles California native, is suing Google because Google Maps issued directions that told her to walk down a rural highway. She started walking down the highway - (lookin' for adventure . . ) which had no sidewalk or pedestrian paths and was struck by a car. She is suing Google for her medical expenses ($100,000), as well as punitive damages. She is also suing the driver who struck her.
On January 19, 2010, Rosenberg was apparently trying to get from 96 Daly Street, Park City, Utah, to 1710 Prospector Avenue, Park City, Utah. She looked up the walking directions using Google Maps on her Blackberry. Google Maps suggested a route that included a half-mile walk down "Deer Valley Drive," which is also known as "Utah State Route 224."
There's not much more to say--she started walking down the middle of a highway, and a car hit her. Who wouldn't have seen that one coming?
Google has been accused of being careless, reckless and negligent by providing of unsafe directions, Plaintiff Lauren Rosenberg was led onto a dangerous highway, and was thereby stricken by a motor vehicle, causing her to suffer sever permanent physical, emotional, and mental injuries, including pain and suffering, according to her legal representation.
Google actually does offer up a warning about its walking directions--if you view Google Maps on a computer, it gives you the following message: "Walking directions are in beta. Use caution--This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths."
This warning does not show up in PDA's and cell phones, however. I suppose Google figured that people who are smart enough to use Blackberries are probably also smart enough to not walk directly into the middle of traffic. WRONG: there's nothing less common than common sense.
I don't know whether she won or lost her case. But I'm sure a few lawyers made enough to enjoy a nice week in Salt Lake City with the
Enjoy your weekend folks. I'm making a conscious effort to make mine fucking awesome, which means it will probably be, OK. Cheers:) Chardy time.
just shaking my head...heard yesterday a seafood restaurant is suing the government and BP for loss of profits due to the oils spill...
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well.... interesting. And after how many minutes dis she realise that there was no pavement?
ReplyDeleteHehe, my word verification is Trocky.
Yup, she definitely qualifies for the Friday Fuckwit! And the sad part is that she'll probably win the suit; after all, the woman who sued McDonalds for scalding herself with their coffee won her suit, so why not this one?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend! We'll have a good one here, too; it's a holiday weekend with perfect weather for cookouts and fireworks.
this kinda stuff drives me crazy! i can't stand to hear about people who sue anyone and everyone they can for stupid crap and then win! something is wrong with our society!
ReplyDeleteAnother great fuckwit stupidity saga! Amazing...
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was an offence of "Failing to take account of someone's stupidity". My law studies must have been incomplete.
ReplyDelete...only in America....
ReplyDeleteWV = aerso (sounds suspiciously like...)
I'm sorry Brian Miller but I'm all for that seafood restaurant sueing BP for fucking up their oysters etc. Of course that's BP's fault and BP should be severely punished.
ReplyDeleteThe ordinary legal technicality, as we were taught in business school, was that consequential loss is NOT ordinarily suable ~ especially where negligence is involved, rather than breech of contract.
As for that silly cow ~ hasn't she heard of a MAP??
Tsk, tsk, I am shaking my head. There is no accountability for one's actions anymore. It is always someone else's fault. Wonder why lately people are thinking that so much. And what happened to the judges who let this crap happen.
ReplyDeleteSomething is clearly wrong with our judicial system here in America. We have lost our sense of what is right and wrong. But then blaming someone else is coming from our top spot in the country and I am sure it empowers everyone else to blame everyone else too. I guess the buck stops in your neighbor's backyard and not your own.
I just feel sorry for the person who hit her. In this instance he seems to be the one person who can actually blame someone else. May we all pray that he knows it is not his fault. Dumbass woman should have known that it is barely safe enough to walk on the sidewalks let alone in the middle of the street.
I hope she gets a jury that is smart enough to vote against her.
Great Friday Fuckwit.
God bless and glad you are feeling better.
we really oughta pay google for culling the species...maybe we can write off a few more nincompoops...glad you're attempting to whoop it up...hey, look both ways before crossing!
ReplyDeleteAnnnndddd of course she's an American.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
What the flying fuck do I have to do... or who the flying fuck do I have to fuck... to be a Friday Fuckwit around here???
ReplyDeleteOy. Litigation is generally for fuckwits, with rare and real exceptions.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Right while I was reading this, Annie was looking at her email and she said "People are just morons."
ReplyDeleteI thought she was reading this too but it was something else entirely!
So much to say... such a little tiny comment box LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know, we're sharing the world with these people -- they're everywhere.
:-(
Good grief .. that's all. Just good grief.
ReplyDeleteActually, I've driven down one of the Utah rural highways and got out to take photos. They're often long and straight and you can see for a long way. And people drive fast. You need to use caution just crossing the road, let alone walking down the middle of the damn thing.
Good grief.
Sorry, broken record.
Letterman and Leno must step aside, Ms Baino is taking over.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a grand weekend Baino. Ok is good and good is great.
She's the perfect candidate for your FF Baino..
ReplyDelete..... and I the only person on earth who doesn't have a mobile phone with GPS
This is why there are so many warnings stamped on things...due to literal idiots like this, wot?
ReplyDeleteReminded me of the woman that sued Winnebago( something about not minding th' steering whilst th' auto-pilot was engaged... )
I read about this in my local paper and remember thinking how stupid this woman is. NOBODY walks down the middle of a road, especially not a state highway.
ReplyDeleteseems when 'brains' were handed out she thought they said 'trains', and wanted none :P lol
ReplyDeleteWhat an idiot. Poor person who hit her. (Could be even poorer soon by the sound of it!)
ReplyDeletea fucking awesome weekend?
ReplyDeletehoney hells, please do.
you totally deserve a fucking awesome everything.
love
kj
I'd be extremely rich hahahhahahaha
ReplyDeleteIf I got to sue every search engine that took me to the wrong place then Booble would be in real trouble! haha
ReplyDeleteWell I hope that woman did not win but I do feel rather bad fro her, but really, come on now, you can;t blame stupidity on google or anyone else.
