You know how I'm looking for my Knight in Shining Armour? Well . . . went along to Winterfest this weekend. All on my lonesome because nobody wanted to be involved in such a gothy nerdfest but hey, it was a gorgeous day and at worst a nice walk in the park.

Although the search for the perfect man was not easy:

There was this guy being pummelled by kids whilst in the stocks. Looked a bit wet behind the ears to me.

Then this guy, but I dunno, feathers in caps? Just a little to foppish for my discerning tastes.

Now this guy was nice and tall but when he turned round had a faced only a mother could love

This guy had a lubly red coat but, green stockings? Fashion faux pas dahlink

This one? Nice bird but a shame about the hat!

Now this fellow was quite handy

This one just a little hirsute . .

This lot just wouldn't stop fighting . . .

Now this one just moaned too much and not in a good way ..

Found him! Just look at that codpiece!

  3. Dudes in 7 and 8 look pretty damn good to me, although a few others look good too. Just let them know you are out there and prince charming will be showing up one day with your shoe and see what happens. I think they say that men can tell if a female is not on the market and so they tend to stay away, being as there is two of us to every one of them I think that makes think they have the right to be choosy which maybe it does.

I just counted up my mom's grandkids, she had 8 girls and 4 boys, yup 2 to 1. Oh well such is life. And my mom had 5 girls and 2 boys, my mom must be a firm believer in that two to one thing.

Glad you had fun and thank you for sharing it.

    God bless.

We have such shows as well, but with Hungarian soldiers usually. The only exception I can recite now is the Savaria Fest, which shows how Ancient Romans lived.

  5. Medieval "Faires" are a lot of fun. There are several traveling ones here in the US, including King Richard's Faire.

Don't believe the codpiece; men often overcompensated with them. Just sayin'!

  6. Looks like a fun outing. I love Renaissance Faires, though I haven't been to one in years. And what an interesting collection of men...

  7. Umm, call me ig'nant, but what, dare I ask, is a "codpiece"?! :D I can always trust you to keep things amusingly interesting, shall we say? LOL. Glad you found your knight in shiny armour anyway. I hope once the mask came off he too wasn't rather a let down there.

  8. haha...you don't really need a man.

  13. I seriously think they should bring back the stocks. Get rid of those waste of space "win a car" or "cheaper broadband" stalls at the local mall and have a line up of local neer do wells impounded in wood with a stall selling rotten eggs and tomatoes. Now wouldn't THAT perk up a dull day at the shops??!?

  14. Ooh, I'd love to put some of our politicians in the stocks and let the public have a go at them. I'm sure the queues would be right round the block.

  17. HAHAHA! i can't get over the ORANGE shoes in the first photo. who wears orange shoes?!

your prince charming is not in this group. that much is obvious.
but he is none-the-less out there, some man who is worthy of a spitfire intelligent crust of a marshmellow like my dearest friend hells.

  21. A codpiece is NOT the thing to be basing a prospective relationship on!

Your Faire looks similar to the Mediaeval fair that we have over here in February. I haven't been in 10 years. Maybe I'll go to the next one.

  22. Hey, I didn't realize medieval Australia was so like medieval Europe!

I think you're supposed to drop your handkerchief and wait to see who rushes to retrieve it and tie it to the end of their lance.

  25. Surely you could find a soul mate in that group, or at least someone to spend the Knight with! lmao

  26. Mr "look at that codpiece" isn't a man at all, just a suit of armour set at a jaunty angle !! :-)

Hey I've finally found my vocation in life.... as a POP STAR

I've already penned my first hit record. It's on my blog. Please come by and critique it for me. I'm desperate for creative input ;-)

  27. Some of the critiques I got on my didn't call on the phone and I'm all on my own and it cuts like a knife because you're out of my life song lyrics were so hilarious I was literally honking with laughter(!!)

  28. Re keyboards, I learned touch typing in college so I'm equally stumped by new layouts.

I'm using a laptop too. Perhaps I should have explained, I'm not plugging in new hardware, simply going into Microsoft's "control panel" where there's a choice of 100+ layouts. E.g. English UK was my default because here we obviously need the £ sign, which isn't on American keyboards.

You can add as many foreign layouts as you desire and switch in and out at will. I'm just regretting choosing German as my default. I thought it might speed up the learning process re Y and Z. In German I don't find it too much of a problem, but z being where y should be does my brainbox in in English...

Anyway my point is that any internet cafe worth its salt will be able to convert a French AWERTY into a QWERTY with the click of a mouse. They might even have a few American keyboards for international visitors. It won't be a problem.

I have UK, French, German and American International in mine. it's dead easy switching between them.

If you're bothered about the issue I'll ask my friend Gattina from Belgium. She said she had terrible problems with QWERTY on holiday and so brought her own laptop to Morocco in May....

Ookh I feel contradictions coming on it's 03:33 and I've sleep deprivation. Of course your end it's a chill winter's afternoon...

    Nighty-night ;-)

  29. Well, I'll tell ya. The most attractive man I ever saw in my life, I saw at Faire. I will never, ever forget how my heart literally stopped beating when I saw him. It was completely one-sided, yet still utterly magical.

None of these come close, but they or their doppelgangers were all around me at the time!

  31. Alas Bonny Baino, my fair maiden, 'tis but evil trickery: 'tis not the size of thy knight's wand, but the magic he doth doest with it....

  32. a lot of duds out there but now I have a new criteria check the size of the codpiece !!I love it sandy

I'm sure many a maiden lamented "...and yet when he takethe off his helmete I was sorely disappointed...". No doubt it applied to the codpiece also. Loved this post. Laughed so much "in much mirth and merriment" that I had a coughing fit.My husband used to dress up for these things when he was a young out-of-work actor - the guy in the stocks is probably one, desperate for rent money!

  34. We have Renaissance festivals here too. The food is great. Somewhow they manage to incorporate belly dancers here. It was always fun to take the kids to the festival.

Mr. Hirsute's photo doth reveale a plastic bottle of water! Either plastic is older than I thought it was, or the event coordinator gets a slap on the botty.
