I'm sure there were more than three bottles . . the 23 was delish |
My daughter can cook when the mood takes her. Home made chicken satay and spinach salad with sugar glazed walnuts and parmisan - it was awesome |
Clearly you have to discuss the merits of Merlot, the suavity of Shiraz and the candour of Cabernet |
Sniff it, swill it but never spit . . . always swallow |
OK . . .get this one into you son |
Today, I went with the lovers to a Wedding Expo at our local Entertainment Centre. Not for any particular reason other than I've never been to one. Interesting. Well. Amazing in terms of what things cost. I wouldn't know because my two lovers are planning and paying for their own wedding. I feel guilty about not being able to put on a Royal bash but they want control and given current circumstances aren't interested in being subsidised. I'm still overwhelmed by the cost of things from flowers to cars. I'm even more overwhelmed by the potential crassness of weddingy things from pink Hummer limousines to having your bouquet 'framed' for posterity. Aren't you supposed to chuck it to some hapless spinster?
Apparently the 'average' wedding costs about $15,000 . . . A guy at work recently had a $200,000 wedding thanks to wealthy in laws. Are you serious? Anyway, here are a few happy snaps. I wasn't allowed to photograph the fashion parade which is a good thing because it was full of women impersonating pavlovas. All they lacked was the passionfruit and strawbs on top. I think Adam enjoyed the lingerie set though.
You can get a fake Californian cop to escort your wedding party and 'arrest' a designated guest . . .er why? |
Horrible, all of them, just horrible |
Hmm . . so you haven't bought the rings yet? |
You know you're kid is going to dye it blue and wear to Medieval day at school? |
Very Adam but he wasn't too impressed |
A PINK Hummer? For a wedding? Kill me now |
Wrong for a wedding in so, so, so many ways . . |
Awww dat's nice |
i thought the average wedding was ten grand twenty years ago when i got married! i'm surprised they aren't even more exy
ReplyDeleteIt's terrific that they're paying for it themselves but if you can subtlely hint that it's just one single day of their lives and that a lot of that money could be better spent on a deposit, or holiday, or car, or.....
ReplyDelete(says the old bag whose wedding cost $1000 in 1995).
i love a good bit of psychedelic vulgarity so the inside of that car is perfect for any occasion
ReplyDeletein knightsbridge around harrods they had a lot of piss coloured yellow diamonds about 5, 6 years ago
always set in platinum to highlight the pissiness but i always thought they'd look better set against perfectly same-toned gold so the effect is gold and gold+ sparkly fire; yellow diamonds still have the rainbow fire of white ones
which is why i love blue diamonds so much they're like psychedelic sapphires ~ WOW! bit too expensive for nearly everyone's taste. a little-fingernail sized one would be about ten million Aussie dollars...
HMMMMMM...Circa 1975....stuff the lot of you...we will do do what we want to & HEY...guess what... most of you are now dead so there....STFU...!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I still go to the Travel Expo and Career Expo and not the Wedding Expo. :P They fit better to me, because I get impatient when I am in a clothes shop for example.
ReplyDeleteGeez. My wedding was paid for by the various parents but we were soooooooooo cheap. Did the cards and invites ourselves (long story, helps when the MRS works in the printing business). Local village hall, catering by relatives. Wine by father (bulk bought on business trips). Celebrant paid for by bride and groom. At the time these things were supposed to cost about $10K. I think we had change out of about $1K. I still would not have it any other way. All this $ stuff is just an excuse to rip off mug punters.
ReplyDeletehells, your verbal observations are hilarious. you are so damn cute.
ReplyDeletehere where i live the average wedding costs $ 30,000. martha stewart might even say $ 40,000. i won't tell you what we paid for jess' wedding but i will say they could have eloped in los vegas and had a down payment on a house instead.
still, i am surprised to say that jess' wedding was worth the memory. it was classy and fantastic. however, i was never offered a california state trooper for any purpose. i would have definitely had my ex-mother-in-law arrested. :)
smooch and tsup hells
♥
That green suit and a pink Hummer are enough to give one morning sickness.
ReplyDeleteI do like the sound of the Wine Club that you didn't talk about! ;) What time does the next one start?
ok its all good but there is no way i would spend $200000 on a wedding....insane....wine club sounds fun though...
ReplyDeleteI've had that Two Rivers Shiraz. Yum!
ReplyDeleteLots of fun going on in your neck of the woods! I can't get over the pink Hummer, however...and I just don't understand that CA cop.
ReplyDeletewhatever, i'm sure you'll have a good time at the big event--you and a big glass of bubbly.
ReplyDeleteif i would ever tie the knot again it'll be barefoot on a beach. Price of a minister and plane fare. priceless.
not my cuppa... wines look nice, tho
ReplyDeleteThe food on your menu sounds great.
ReplyDeleteAlso love your comments on the wedding fair hell.
(Went the same way as your ones - did it ourselves, which cut out what could have been a huge amount of 'helpful interference'. Did our own cake decoration too - blue, green, yellow blocks of colour and celtic designs. It was fun doing it.)
Gee, the things people will do for a wedding! The pink hummer I could tolerate---maybe, but the faux cop? No way!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the job...I would say to keep your spirits up but right now, I'm hardly the one for advice...
I saw an Aussie chef talking of a dessert called pavlov---curious how that got its name...
It's not just beer and malt whisky I like : I will do justice to all kinds of alcohol, so the wine club sounds like my kind of organisation. As for weddings : I still have the bill for our's - with the meal and drinks 70 or so guests coming to £136. My kind of wedding, that.
ReplyDeleteI hope there were more tasteful things too at that wedding fair. Your taste and mine could be very similar, although I might like the slingbacks with the sort of fifties look.
ReplyDeleteHummers are just... *shudder* in any colour.
Your taste in wine is definitely very similar to mine ;-)
Whew, things are spendy! But there is just nothing like watching people who are in love :).
ReplyDeleteNo guilt for you! Things are out of hand with wedding expenses.
Oh, you know my views on marriage - short and sweet in a Register Office. But if people want to do it in style, with all the trimmings at fabulous expense, well, it's their big day and their choice, I guess.
ReplyDeleteOur local supermarket's Aussie wine section is 100% chardonnay. As I don't particularly like chardonnay, they stay right there on the shelf.
if people knew that in the long run it all doesn't matter - would they think twice? we had a nice party - everyone had a good time and we didn't spend a zillion dollars - not even close. Maybe 5 grand tops including everything and I thought that was too much. But what the heck - it's all the rage now to have pink hummers, and fancy fairytale dresses.
ReplyDeleteoh...to be a fairytale princess....
Expo!
ReplyDeleteSeems like "tacky" costs a lot these days. California cop? Good grief. On the other had, when in England a few years ago, I saw an NYPD cruiser, complete with cop at the wheel, sitting outside my hotel. It took me a few beats to realize what I was seeing, and where. Yep, there was a wedding inside. Still, it's better than that pink Hummer.
ReplyDeleteGood grief ... those shoes ARE horrible! And 'women impersonating pavlovas'! HAHAHAHAHA!!! Yep, that's why I got my neighbour to make my wedding dress in white cotton seersucker with yellow and orange braid!
ReplyDeleteWe have those hideous pink Hummer Limos here. They're not even a nice pink!! And have you see the inside? Nightmare-inducing!
cool post....very true....
ReplyDeleteand yes, the inside of our hummer looks liek that....
but.... noone on the outside will ever know!
and yes we will be buying an ice featuer haha
