Sorry chaps and chaplets but been offline more than on lately thanks to dodgy telco wires and my internet behaving badly. I've realised how totally dependent I am on the thing and apart from a day's pre-holiday shopping yesterday have missed trawling and communicating more than I thought I would.
You know, it's tough to do anything without a connection. Couldn't pay bills, look at blogs, respond to emails, chat or even surf to find an alternative telco. Seems to be back on now but after two tech visits and numerous chat with South African Helldeskers, nobody seems to know the problem.
So, now I'm researching new ISP's to see if I can get a more reliable provider. Sadly, Australia has had a national Government owned Telco, Telstra, for many many years and all the phone and cable infrastructure is theirs. Despite being sold off slowly, they still have the Public Service mentality and make other ISPs who share their cables PROVE that it's not their problem before investigating. So, bear with me, I'll be back as internet allows. And, probably with Telstra Big Pond. Not the best, not the cheapest but at least when things go haywire, I go right to the source.
i'm with telstra but i thought optus were pretty good, their service was way better
ReplyDeletei nearly die if i lose my connection :)
Internet problems occurr everywhere. You can change your provider, but they are all basically the same: they push to get your account, they ignore you if you have trouble. Most of our problems come from providers who have oversold their services and can't deliver to so many.
ReplyDeleteHere cable is totally separate from the phone. In fact I think cable is the one offering 40 megabytes broadband or something amazing, whereas BT is just 12 megabytes or something. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteHey you could try mobile broadband as a stopgap. Actually no it's really expensive. It's just that it works even if ordinary broadband is down...
Probaby those nasty goblins have got into the blinkin' broadband connexion...
Hell, it barely farts around here and we are without power, let alone an Internet connection. Sometimes we have these sudden thunderstorms but we're all good. Then there are those times that there won't be a cloud in the sky and - poof - the power goes out for four hours. Oy!
ReplyDeleteLove the 'toon!
;-)
stinks. like i said in my email we have had nasty storms every night so i have been without most evenings this week...ack. hope it clears up for you soon...
ReplyDeletewe miss you as well...smiles.
Hope you get some SOLID internet connection SOON. I scold myself regularly when I pop over to my lap top to check/look up the most RANDOM things. I'd like to say that it makes me more intelligent, current and the like...but it just is NOT true!
ReplyDeletehells, i understand completely. i don't know if my operative word is 'reliance' or 'addiction' at this point but i use the computer more than i ever thought possible.
ReplyDeleteand my blog friends and my email connections: they are precious to me. they are part of my daily life. and i'm not apologizing one damn bit!
love
kj
I'm with you 100%. I often glorify when we didn't have so many gadgets in our lives and things were simpler, but if my cable goes out or my computer quits on me, I go into manic mode. I am an addict.
ReplyDeleteWell, our banks may have screwed up big-time, but good to know British Telecom is way better than the Oz equivalent. My broadband is extremely reliable, no spam either thanks to all the BT firewalls.
ReplyDeleteHope you get the problem sorted soon, Internet Deprivation Syndrome causes very severe symptoms.
We're suffering Telstra for the phone but using TPG for the 'poota stuff and have been pretty happy so far ---- quickly rushes off to touch something wooden ----
ReplyDeleteIn Hungary we have very good internet. Once I heard from a person who traveled to many Western countries and he said that a lot of things are done better there (I doubt it) but he missed Hungarian internet, because it is so much faster.
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason why the new bloggo is named what it is....
ReplyDelete..then again Blogger has it's own issues...
HUGS :)
Hope you overcome the problems soon. We need a regular helping of Baino's Banter to keep us going.
ReplyDeletebone chance I too am trying to build a more powerful internet- scaling the globe in seconds hah need for work
ReplyDeleteComputer goblins have gotten hold of my lifeline here. SLOOOOOOOWWW computer response to anything I try to do is making me crazy! Hence, the slow down in creativity here in Upstate New York.
ReplyDeleteHope you get things figured out soon!
Hmmmm... Yeah, I'd be in big trouble if my Internet didn't work, too. Just about all my bills come as email notifications these days, which I proceed to pay inline. I don't get paper bills in the mail any more, so if I can't see it I can't pay it, and that can be disastrous. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteHey there! I am awful I know, but will post soon with news. Hope you are great! Well you know how...Greece is doing from the news. It will all be OK, thankfully! Thank you for commenting and sorry for getting back so so late.
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
I meant "hopefully"...oh well, semantics :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, you manage to make even a huge drama like 'no internet' into a fun read. We have the same problem over here. Ánd there is not enough blue sky to make a Dutchman's trousers. Depressing stuff. Hope you manage to find a good internet provider. Good luck in your new job. Have fun! (Am I correct in thinking that you're starting next week?)
ReplyDeleteservice here is always good, but occassionally i seem to get so infested with bugs that my computer needs wiped...hope you get it figured out.
ReplyDeletetotally sux when that happens :(
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoon! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're having problems, especially since it means you're not posting! I hope you get it all sorted out soon.
Thanks for the recent visit and comment Baino. Hope your internet problems get sorted soon. That interesting photo you liked featured a close-up of the letters which were part of a sculpture placed on a table in one of those mass-produced furniture places. I thought it was the only interesting thing in the shop!
ReplyDeleteI find I'm able to stay off the internet all day and would leave it longer if I didn't get an idea for my blog.
ReplyDeleteLately I've been reading my way through a stack of library books and watching dvd's. I don't turn on the computer until dinnertime, write my article, (or just put up a picture), then while I'm here, skim my favourites and read email, then turn it off again.
