I Hope He Had the Time of Is Life

I'm not a great one for tributes to those who've passed if I don't know them, but sometimes, just sometimes, I am actually touched by an actor or celebrity who seems to have been a pretty awesome person. It's a sad day today. I know greater men have passed, broader intellects, grand philosopher's and philanthropists but last night Patrick Swayze, the swoon meister and all round nice guy died.

Not the greatest of Thespians but I don't think there's a woman out there who wouldn't want to be swept of her feet, taught to dance or have strong arms wrapped around her whilst slopping about on a pottery wheel and the man loved horses . .what can I say?

Thank you Patrick Swayze for bringing incurable romance to our screens and the sheer swooning joy that was Dirty Dancing and Ghost. Thank you for feeding us incurable romantics the food of love, for making two of the ultimate chick flicks and for being so brave in publicising your cancer and raising awareness. And as they said in Ghost . . ."You take the love with you." I sincerely hope you do.

Thank you Mr Swayze and bless those you leave behind. And I think for the best part, he and his wife of 37 years did have the time of their life.

And a huge 'take it easy' to my darling GrannyMar who has just yesterday had a hip replacement and should be being dragged out of bed after her surgery, right about now. Baby steps Grannymar and remember "Nobody leaves Baby in the corner"

I couldn't have put it better myself!

As a 'Dirty Dancing' fanatic (both 1 and 2) and 'Ghost' admirer - Patrick has brought me many years of viewing pleasure!

Bless him!

beautifully put baino. Dirty Dancing was filmed just up the road here. we caught our breath last night when it scrolled across about his death. he did make some definitive movies and left his mark on many...

Well I didn't know him and good men die young but I think he lived a good and happy life and didn't seem to let celebrity get to him. I felt a bit the same as when Heath Ledger died. Definitely scored a big "Aww that's sad."

He wasn't a bad old skin was Patrick. Like you say, not the best actor ever but he easily outshone dum-dums Keanu Reeves as the baddie in Point Break.

He wasn't all chick flicks either. He kicked some serious ass as a nightclub bouncer in Roadhouse. Most memorable line was when he found a fellow member of security getting off with a hoit chick in a backroom.

"But I'm on my break!" protested the colleague.

"Stay on it," says Patrick.

RIP to the fella anyway.

Baino, nice. One of me mates at work picked it up on his cell-phone( on a break, of course ). Terence is spot on for "Point Break".

I hadn't seen this news yet. Such a shame. I was hoping he'd manage to beat the cancer.

As a child of the 80s, Dirty Dancing played a huge role in my teenage years.

i'll never forget every minute of 'ghost' for as long as i live. i liked him alot too.

baino, your heart is deep and wide.

Meh, hated both those films. Well, Ghost had it's moments, but generally, meh. However I heard on the radio this morning that he refused to take friggin huge payments for movies because he believed that the amount some actors get paid was immoral, raped the industry and took food from peoples mouths. Now that I'll admire the man for. Right on PS.

You blokes! Don't ever, ever, tell me you don't understand women I'm giving you hot sexy-time tips here and you're feeding me Point Break crap.

Now here's something fer nothing.

Chill a bottle, get the anti-pasto plate ready (you do know that means more than cheese and pickled onions dont you?) Hot chocolate dip and strawbs will do it, (I will provide a man-proof recipe if need be), sling the kids into bed, bring out the Doona on the couch or spread before the fire (or Duvet for you posh Euro folks) play Ghost and if you're not in like Flynn after the pottery scene you have NO hope, none, nada, niet.

*grumbles of to bed*

*gets up to make further point*

Point Break is shit and Nananu is worth a one night stand* Whoaa!

Oh and McDanger, nice to have you back you reprobate!

You mean the raw sexual magnetism of me in Y fronts holding a beer is insufficient on it's own?

Cancer is so deadly why oh why is there not a cure?

His (Swayze's) marriage was a truly wonderful example of enduring love. I admire him for that as much as anything.

lovely tribute.

Ah no, sad news indeed, but you've done him justice here Baino.

Pancreatic cancer, jeez, we knew what the end would be but still, I thought somehow he'd beat it. 57's no age to die.

I'm no fan of romantic films, but North and South, now that's more my style. Nothing could steal my heart like a handsome young confederate! Ah well. God bless his family and friends.

I heard the sad news about Patrick Swayze, but didn't know that Grannymar finally had her hip replacement. I'm happy that it's over and now let the recovery begin.

Patrick was iconic wasn't he? I was saddend to learn of his death but am comforted that his pain is over. I loved him in Point Break and Road House too. Nice tribute, Baino.

Never forget going to see Dirty Dancing with all the gals in my dorm hall. Especially because after it was over, we waved the bus along and danced our way back on foot. One of my best movie memories ever. Swoon!

Yes sweet friend, I love that our kids can tell us whats what.

They make me laugh when they do it too.

But I am more than sure that the apples don't fall far from the trees.

Nice post. Too bad they disabled the video but youtube is probably re-directing everyone to their site...oh, just because. He did seem like a nice guy. And what a body!

You have so much heart Baino, I really am glad to know you!

Check out the Saturday Night Live skit with Swayze and Chris Farley. The chippendales skit. It is sad that they are both gone, but it was really funny!

I was really saddened by it, it's all just weird. Normally when someone famous dies I'm like awh no thats so bad, but I was really shaken by this one. He did seem like such a nice guy.

Grow Up I had such a crush on you until until you gave me the Y-front image!

I know Ian, I watched loads of clips before I picked this one. Bugger the embedding, it took me ages to find one with embedded text. You Tube are quick on the draw.

iBeati can you believe she’s out of bed already, they’re talking about sending her home after four days! Apparently we do the same here as long as you’re up and about! Amazing. As for Cancer, it’s a pariah . .you’re not alone tho Sandy, You’re never alone!

They seemed to be very happy didn’t they Cinnamon. Apparently they retook their vows last year as well. Poor woman will be devastated.

Suze if you’re going to get it, that’s one of the worst I believe. Still he remained dignified and worked until January this year to boot . . Aww romantic films have their place. Nothing like a night in with the girls, chocolate and a box of tissues!

Yep Darlene, she’s up and about. Elly is posting on her behalf.

Oh I forgot about Roadhouse but still preferred him as a romantic lead.

Haha . . you wild child Meg!

Yeh sorry about the vid Cali, I searched to find one that had embedded text but the You Tube Army must have been out overnight.

Aww Otin, you can be my new crush since Grow Up’s wearing his Y Fronts! I’m glad I know you too. I will check out the skit tonight. Work calls!

Yeh made me sad too Jelly, probably because he wasn’t ever involved in shenanagins or controversy. Just kept himself quiet and professional. I admired that.

I've never seen a Swayze movie, so I feel nothing.

Well said, Baino.

When I cast my addled mind back to 1987 and I left the cinema after seeing 'Dirty Dancing', I remember saying to my girlfriend Jill, "Hooley dooley, who WAS that guy? I think I need to smoke a cigarette now!"**

**irony re cancer completely unintended, btw....

laughingwolf said...

i agree, baino... but my fave flick by him was 'road house', pretty violent, but so believable

[see my post]

"Ditto"

It's alright, I don't actually own Y fronts.

Tom said...

he was one of those 'iconic' types, whether you liked his stuff or not. Like others, Point Break was my favorite, one of the best action flicks of the 90's.

Sarah Lulu said...

Oh he was wonderful ....that clip *sigh* ....always remembered.

AND healing prayers for your Grannymar.

Christopher said...

He did seem like an incredibly nice guy. Swayze was one of those rare actors who, in interviews, came across as a real person who was genuinely surprised by the attention he got. He never seemed to take it for granted either.

VE said...

57 is too young to die. He was fit and a good person...WTF? I just don't get this whole death thing...

liza said...

So, sad to see him go. He was loved my many and will be missed.

jay said...

So sad, poor man. I loved Ghost, and caught up with Dirty Dancing quite late, but loved that too.

And I wouldn't wish pancreatic cancer on anyone. :(

Miladysa said...

Well said Baino.

Never heard a bad word about the guy - you can't say that about many celebs these days can you?

Like Wolfie my fav was Road House.

Ces said...

Ah yes he was secure with his masculinity. He was a football player who can dance and most of all - he was a Houstonian! How sweet of you to remember him.

Big apologies, the attention spans are very short. Rest, exercises and walkies are all regulated by Nurse Hitler! ;) Nah, she is very caring and doing a good job.

Thanks for the good wishes, not quite ready for the Dirty dancing yet! maybe next week!
