Friday Fuckwit The Bitch is Back

I nearly posted this a couple of months ago when I read about it. Some nutter who decided it would be a good idea to have a camera installed in the back of his head to record a year of his life  . . from behind which is an interesting concept. Anyway, apparently it didn't go quite according to plan:

Poor old Wafaa Bilal (which is interesting because I work with a Wafaa and she's a girl). Anyway his 'third eye' which was to record everything he did over the next year (well everything going on behind his back) caused something of a headache. The device was rejected by his body. My father would call this a perfect example of 'no brains, all intelligence' and oh boy have I met a few like that.

Wafaa Bilal, assistant arts professor at New York University, experienced severe and constant pain, despite treatment with steroids and antibiotics. To be precise, it wasn't the camera itself he had implanted, but rather three posts and a titanium base to hold the actual camera. Bilal had the base and one of the posts removed.
He hasn't given up on the project, though.

Bilal plans on revisiting the project with a different set of equipment when the wounds from his surgery heal. It's unclear what that means, but it might mean a lighter camera or different materials for the implant.

Is his life really that interesting? Save it for the movies Bilal!

Oh and a bonus Fuckwit:

My dog went missing on Wednesday even though I'm sure she was just through the paddock fence snoofing rabbits and on Brighton Avenue. Some darling girlfriend of a boyfriend who lives in one of the MacMansions up the back took her home overnight and surrendered her the next day to Rooty Hill Veterinary Clinic about 30 kms away. Apparently her collar had become severed from her neck. Getting mighty clever that Miss Lily. So, thank you miss Do Gooder for rescuing my dawg but couldn't you have taken her to the vet down the road? No. I'm the fuckwit in this one. Bad dog owner. Bad containment. Bad everything. Although for a while there I was thinking of buying a cat. The dog is fine and has clearly been over fed given the audible farts and bloating evident this evening.

Have a lovely weekend punters. Three chapters to go on this stupid writing challenge (with no prize) and I'll be back like a blister from a pair of new shoes.  That was rather good, just made that up. Happy weekend.
Whah? I din''t do nuthin'. She made me eat Meatybites and sit on the back seat? Whah?

Speaking as one who has had an audio transmitter and receiver implanted in my head for twelve years now I quite like Waffaa's idea. Next time I go for my check-up I will mention it to the surgeon and see if he can fix me one up. Love the dog, love the dog story.

Glad to know that Lily is home again, I saw your twitter plea for sight of her.

As for a camera inserted in my head... I have enough trouble with nature's cameras at the front without wanting one at the back. Who cares what funny faces or signs follow in my wake? I certainly prefer to look and move forward!

Lily is gorgeous. She looks so much like Wheat Straw, our yellow lab of long ago. We rec'd him from the neighbors when they split up. My husband was already in love w/ him through the chain link fence so he said "Yes" right away. 110 lbs in his prime and whattadog! Same color nose, same shaped head and same delicate blonde as your Lily. My husband refused to have him fixed (he was empathizing a bit TOO much) and the dog would wander for hours if he got out; looking for hot babes, no doubt.

Heard about the NYU brainiac. Why not just wear a hat w/ a mini camera like a GoPro on the back? I mean, geesh!

Heh, heh! CG beat me to the general idea. My own idea was some sort of headband with a mini-cam attached to the back, no surgery required.

Glad to hear that Lily is back home.

So glad Lily is back! That is all.

likely done a better job if he installed it closer to his brains... in his ass!

I'm very glad to hear that the lovely Lily is back home and safe! I had that happen once, many years ago, with my first dog. It was only because the woman saw us all out searching and calling frantically as she drove blithely through our village that Jim didn't end up miles and miles away at her own vet! But it's something people just do, perhaps because they know where their vet is, but not the vets local to where they've found the dog.

My own son brought me a stray from thirteen miles away one time. But at least I knew where he'd found her and could make calls. We found the owner pretty quickly, but she didn't have a collar on, either.

Well, Lily had herself a bit of an adventure! I am glad she is safely back at home, farts and all. If only our pets could talk. Or maybe not.

Baino, don't have much to say about the idiot who has the camera implanted....

But, I ADORE Lily! What a face! She CAN speak! And she's happy to be home with her "Mum" and family!

Happy Valentine's Day!

re cameras you know what's fantastic? it's one you put on your cat's collar and it takes stills at 10 minute intervals so you get a record of your cat's night out how amazing is that!

i saw it on television before i was mentally ill so i know it's real!

Beautiful photo of Lily. Don't blame yourself for her going missing Helen, after all we can't all have eyes in the back of our head.
When I was growing up, our family pet went missing - an unneutered Pekingese. A woman had nabbed him to breed with her Peke, demanded a reward for "finding him on the streets" and for his subsequent return. He slept for an eternity after his two week abscence.

laughingwolf got there first. that is one gorgeous hound - glad she's safe

I think you should put a camera on Lily's collar, that way you can keep up with lots of crotch sniffing, doggie bum sniffing, eating and ball chasing. Our pedigree Lab went 'missing' for two weeks when I was about 7 - same story, some snotty cow kidnapped him to use him for stud because she was too cheap to pay stud fees - so you'd get doggie porn too. Can't beat that!

Glad you got Lily back.
Camera equipment in the back of the head would be uncomfortable for sleeping, I think.

Anyone who has unnecessary bits and pieces implanted in their body is asking for trouble. And I'm sure the footage thus obtained would be utterly pointless. Get a life, mister.

Glad Lily came back safely, farts bloating and all.

I'm glad Miss Lily is back home safe and sound. And as for her "escape"? Well, you know, sometimes a girl just has to have herself a little adventure.

Oh Lily....I so want to ruffle those ears and give her a kiss!

Oh and if *I* had a camera installed in the back of my head I'm sure that the footage would only show a heap of people flipping me the bird as I walked past!

I'm just glad your dog was alright.

Oh, good to know what came of that mad art project. I was rather wondering!

LOL.

Oh I'm glad your gorgeous lovely cute and always hungry (because good labradors always are) dog is back. Perhaps you can have a camera installed in her head, so you can see where she's going. No, scrap that. Stupid idea!

What a sweet, guilty looking face! Awwww.

So the camera made his head hurt. hmmmm. haha
